My mom recently gave us a Pack n Play that is a couple of years old and it has a changer but no newborn napper which we wanted since we weren't planning to buy a bassinet. Got one of these Graco Pack n Plays today from our registry. The idea was to use it in the bedroom for the newborn to sleep in until he moves to the crib in the nursery when he's old enough.

We got the deluxe one with all the crazy stuff included - the newborn napper, change table, mp3 stereo system(?!) etc.

However having put it together tonight, I'm unsure if it's suitable at all for overnight sleeping at any age. There are many reviews that talk about using it as a sleeper in the bedroom, but everything physically about it screams SIDS to me. I've got it set up in the bassinet position (mattress elevated) and the mattress itself doesn't secure to anything, there are gaps all around the mattress edges, the two sides that aren't mesh aren't breathable at all, and the mattress itself isn't breathable at all. I mean I spend like $400 on some super SIDS-proof mattress for the real crib, but then I'm supposed to just put the baby in this thing?

And the newborn napper attachment is even worse - it's like a soft SIDS cocoon waiting to smother the baby or tip over at the first sign of movement.

Am I crazy here?
